NICE UP! The Session

That's right - following last years SUMMER SOUNDCLASH, we're heading back to The Big Chill House to NICE UP! the area. Playing a special old-school set are The Ragga Twins, as well as Monkey Mafia Soundsystem (aka Jon Carter & MC Doug'e Reuben). Keeping it as a family affair, we also have the Turntable Dubbers flying in especially from Belgium for this gig, as well as resident Shepdog keeping things bubbling. We've confirmed a very special guest for the night too, but you'll have to come and see who that is on the night! And what's best....it's FREE ENTRY ALL NIGHT!

Friday 10th February

Dub Pistols on tour

One of the hardest working (and partying) live bands out there, the Dub Pistols are back with a brand new album and tour to go with it. I've been lucky enough to hear some of the demos and I can tell you, this album is gonna turn some heads! Featuring the usual mix of ska, hip hop & various strains of dance music, the boys have dabbled in a bit of drum & bass on the forthcoming "Worshipping The Dollar", with vocal features by regulars Rodney P, Darrison, Lindy Layton & TK as well as UK hip hop don Akala.

If you've ever seen the band live you know how wicked they are - obviously why they were voted Best Live Act at DJ Mag's "Best Of British" awards last year. Check out the full details on their website and get down to one of the shows!

Skamla Motown

As you know, we're fond of the odd mash-up over here at NICE UP!, but with most acapellas having been rinsed to death its not often something comes along that pricks up your ears like this. Rather than just plonking the acapella on top of a well known tune, Mr Tenoshi (aka Dante Gabriel, Wrongtom collaborator and DJ) has re-written and replayed his own backing tune to fit, creating what we think is one of the finest examples in a long time! Limited vinyl did the rounds at the back end of last year, but thankfully the label have now decided to release it digitally. You can hear a selection of radio DJs giving it a spin below:

Lionfire

One from the vaults from Lionfire - producers Aries, Gold & Jinx getting down with some jungle-reggae business. They're giving away their remix of Richie Spice's "Youths Dem Cold" on the classic Truth & Rights riddim over on their soundcloud (check below). Sounds like there's plenty more coming up from the crew too - can't wait to hear it!

Jnr Blender remixes

Gotye ft. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (Jr Blender Reggae Remix) from Jr Blender on Vimeo.

Thanks to our buddies over at Bam Bam Sound for putting us onto this great little rerub of "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye ft Kimbra by reggae mash-up don Jnr Blender. Can't say we're actually familiar with the original, but it works a treat with Aswad's "Dub Fire" riddim (aka "Promised Land"). You can grab this plus a LOAD more of his other refixes HERE.
